How much is a girl's education that will last her a lifetime ?

$2

That's all we ask.

Dr. Mathews came to know of Leanne and her problems, and of other young single moms, during his research in Bulucan. Alone, he could do little to help these young women. But he told Leanne and others that they could set up a Foundation and ask for donations, just small amounts, to go toward helping some of these women, each in turn. They would own the Foundation, and he would help manage it properly.

The Foundation works in the following way:

  • Several young women who are studying or want to study at College have joined together to create this Foundation and by various means seek donations and engage in events to generate income.
  • All money goes into an Australian Bank account where it can earn interest from short term fixed deposits.
  • Once a month a certified amount is paid to one of the student moms to cover her school expenses only—fees, extra needs, transport, etc. If there is enough money—capital and interest— then perhaps 2 or 3 young women can immediately benefit.
  • At graduation, and after finding a job, each of the young women pledges to repay by instalments what they received from the Foundation, in order to help other young women. So, it's a bit like the Australian HECs system, or the Grameen Bank system.
